Since being elected Bob's Administration has been able to balance a budget with no tax increases & just last year they were able to lower the real property tax rate.
Salisbury-Wicomico Regional Airport is one of our greatest assets our County has to offer. It has been neglected for sometime now. Bob's Administration wanted to change that, they were able to put the airport & a business park Enterprise Zone to generate economic development around the Airport.
One of Bob's administrations greatest successes happened in 2016 with the creation of the Wicomico Economic Impact Scholarship. Helping students find a pathway to success ensures that we have a fully trained workforce to grow and expand business on Delmarva. The creation of this scholarship will allow eligible graduating seniors the opportunity to attend Wor-Wic Community College for free.
Wicomico County is very lucky to have the leadership of Sheriff Mike Lewis.
We have made tremendous progress in the battle against heroin and opioid addiction. Wicomico County has led the way in the State of Maryland for innovative and collaborative approaches to opioid abuse. 2016 marked the beginning of seamless information sharing between law enforcement agencies, paramedics & the Wicomico County Health Department. Fatal overdoses have decreased with the
widespread training and use of Naloxone(narcan)
One of the county's greatest achievements has been the Community Outreach Addictions Team (COAT).
Wicomico County is still actively working with the Governors office, Wicomico County Sheriffs Department & our Health Department to find ways to help end the opioid crisis.
Its not very often you can find a way to generate revenue without creating a new tax. Recordation tax is an excise tax imposed by the State of Maryland for the privilege of recording an instrument in Land Records.
Previously the Clerk of Circuit Court collected this tax and retained a 5% administrative fee.
It was a no brainer, why were we paying the state to collect this for us?
At the request of the County Executive, the County Council approved Legislation bill 2016-02.
In May of 2016 the Wicomico County Finance Department took on the task of collecting Recordation Tax.
This change alone has brought in additional $326,900.00 back in the taxpayers pockets just in the past two years.
